UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro announced the launch of a High-Level Group on Sustainable Energy for All.

The Sustainable Energy for All group is a body whose aim is to catalyze actions at all levels of society and government to achieve the following three goals by 2030:

The UN report, "Energy for a Sustainable Future" recommends the following actions to achieve the goals of ensuring universal energy access and of reducing global energy Intensity:

  • A global campaign should be launched in support of “Energy for Sustainable Development.
  • All countries should prioritize the goals through the adoption of appropriate national strategies.
  • Finance, including innovative financial mechanisms and climate finance, should be made available by the international community.
  • Private-sector participation in achieving the goals should be emphasized and encouraged.
  • The United Nations system should make “Energy for Sustainable Development” a major institutional priority.
